Methods to enhance toughness of nylon bars

Our commonly used nylon rod PA6 a crystalline thermoplastic material, nylon material is easy to absorb water, containing hydrophilic groups (acylamino). 

In the case of crystalline polymers, the very rapid cooling during the extrusion process prevents the material from naturally crystallizing and setting, which results in strong internal stresses inside the material. In the case of nylon rods that have not been “tempered”, the macromolecules still tend to move in a naturally oriented, crystalline manner after setting, which leads to a further increase in internal stresses in the material. Therefore, the brittleness of the nylon parts without boiling process is very high, and it is easy to fall off or break when it is subjected to external force. 

So, what if we let the already formed nylon macromolecules naturally orient and crystallize to eliminate the internal stress as much as possible? That is what we call boiling, and the boiling process is actually similar to our metal “tempering” treatment process. That is to let the nylon parts soak in a certain water temperature, so that its internal macromolecules tend to natural orientation and achieve the balance of internal crystallization and decrystallization, so as to eliminate its internal stress. The performance on the outside is: the toughness of nylon parts is greatly enhanced, and the brittleness is basically eliminated. 

  So why boil it with water? That is because nylon contains hydrophilic group – acylamino group, which causes nylon to absorb water easily, but after nylon absorbs certain water, it helps its internal macromolecule orientation and crystallization movement.

  The better temperature and time for boiling nylon bushings and nylon parts: 90-100, 2-8 hours. Below 90 degrees, the effect is not good, and more than 8 hours, there will be no better results. In terms of cost performance, the above process conditions are better. Huafu Nylon produces high toughness black MC nylon bushings with 5-15% molybdenum disulfide, 3% toughening agent, MC casting type “Huafu” nylon as the base material, adding all kinds of modifiers in the reaction process, making it more wear-resistant, corrosion-resistant, aging-resistant, self-lubricating, vibration-absorbing and noise-absorbing.
